The College Quarter Neighborhood of Winter Park is bounded by French, Antonette, Maryland, and McIntyre right in the heart of downtown Winter Park. This neighborhood also borders the northwest shore of beautiful Lake Virginia.
The College Quarter also referenced as the College Quarter Historic District is known as one of the oldest areas of Winter Park. Steeped in history the College Quarter was first planted with orange groves and had a small railroad known as the “Dinky Line.” The first residential buildings to go up in the College Quarter began in 1920 during the Florida Land Boom. These homes were built to serve as homes for local businessmen and educators at the nearby Rollins College rather than winter retreats for the wealthy.
Most homes in the College Quarter were built between the years of 1920 and 1953 with an early subdivision style and street pattern. The architecture of homes in the College Quarter reflect the historic styles of the time period in which they were built including Craftsman Bungalow, Mission Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Colonial Revival, Vernacular and Minimal Traditional styles.
Today College Quarter is one of very few registered historic places in Winter Park. The homes are lovingly preserved by current residents. The home owners association of College Quarter is on top of providing a quality lifestyle for the residents and dedicated to preserving the historic heritage of the area. On top of this they also sponsor a number of great social events bringing neighbors together. These events include Holiday Wanderings open houses in December, gatherings during the famous Sidewalk Art Festival, and neighborhood clean up on Earth Day.
Homes in the College Quarter are rarely on the market because of the great neighborhood, unique historic homes, lakeside properties and walking distance to downtown. If you are lucky to find a great property on the market here it could be priced anywhere from $350,000 to a couple million dollars.
